Are Your Red Pimples Actually Rosacea?
Adults often end up with what seems to be ongoing, red acne. Often mistakenly called “red pimples,” this is actually rosacea.
Rosacea appears to be an outbreak of red acne across the face, most often on the cheeks, nose, mouth, and forehead.
The redness can last for days. Sometimes it appears as a bright red flush, and sometimes as a spiderweb of veins. The skin may be ultra-sensitive, as well as dry.
Rosacea should be checked out by a dermatologist, to determine if that is actually what someone is dealing with. In that case, there are numerous creams and medications, both prescription and homeopathic, that can give people relief from the itching and redness.
In addition, the doctor may prescribe an antibiotic to help clear up the pimpled parts of rosacea. Antibiotics are especially important parts of the treatment when the rosacea appears on the eyelids or very close to the eyes. If left near the eye area, rosacea can cause major eye problems.
If the dermatologist determines that rosacea is not the cause of your red bumps, then you probably are dealing with a severe case of adult acne. These red pimples can be painful and are almost always very embarrassing.
If you decide to cover them up, choose your cosmetics carefully, purchasing only those that are non-comedogenic. Always wash them off gently before going to bed, and if you’re staying in for the day, just don’t put the make-up on at all.
Cleanse your face twice daily with a product specifically designed for clearing acne. Treat the pimples themselves with a spot treatment like Revitol. If the acne is an ongoing problem, consider an oral treatment as well, like Acnezine.
While your acne or rosacea is healing, there are some things you can do to try to cut down on the redness. Try holding an ice cube over the affected area for about 10 minutes, and then pat dry.
Or, you can dip a cotton swab in lemon juice and hold it on the spot, as well. If your red pimples have not gone away within three to four weeks, consult with your doctor.
