Ouch! What to Do About Painful Pimples

Have you noticed that some zits just appear, last for a few days, and then leave, barely noticed? And others are horribly painful pimples that seem to stick around for days, if not weeks, on end.

What makes the difference? Well, it may be in the type of pimple. If it’s a simple case of an oil or dead skin blockage in the pore, you’ll probably have a whitehead or small red pimple that comes and goes.

A whitehead pimple may be painful if it comes to a head quickly. If bacteria works its way into the pimple, it will become infected, and those are the most painful ones.

If you’re dealing with a particularly painful whitehead, it might be time to pop it. This is generally not recommended, but it’s very painful, it might be worth risking possible infection and scarring by popping it.

Make sure your hands are very clean, and use gauze to do it gently and as sterile as possible after softening it with a very hot washcloth.

If your painful pimples are of the subcutaneous variety – that is, if they are under the skin, with no heads – you’ll have to wait them out.

You can treat them with a topical solution like Revitol, but in the meantime, you’ll want to relieve the pain. For immediate relief, run a washcloth under very cold water and drape it over your face while you relax.

A gentle aspirin mask may be a good option as well (crush several uncoated aspirin tablets and combine with warm water, aloe, or honey). If all else fails, and you’re in a lot of pain, you might try a topical antibiotic ointment that has a pain relief feature.

The best way to relieve the pain, of course, is to get rid of the acne altogether. Put yourself on a skin care regimin that will heal the issue.

A topical treatment plan, combined with an oral treatment like Acnezine, will probably reveal clear, pain-free skin within a few weeks. Painful pimples are difficult to treat, simply because they are so painful to the touch.
