Don’t Make These Pimple Popping Mistakes!

Good morning! You wake up, get ready for the day, one last look in the mirror, and…ugh. A zit! Time for a little pimple popping to get that thing taken care of once and for all? Maybe not…

Really, it’s not a great idea to pop your pimples. Squeezing them can result in all sorts of nasty things, like pushing the pus further into the skin to become infected.

Or spreading the pus to other pores to create new lovely little volcanic skin lesions. Or leaving an open sore that will scab over and scar into a nice little red spot that can stick around for six months, a year…or much longer.

Now, all that said, of course it’s sometimes completely unpredictable to pop those suckers once and for all. Before proceeding and risking the consequences, however, make sure it’s ready to pop.

Please, please do yourself a favor and don’t pop prematurely. Pimple popping is only appropriate for those zits that are fully “ripe,” with a full, white head of puss.

All of those nasty results I mentioned above? If your pimple’s not ready, be prepared for infection, scarring, and all of that jazz.

Okay, so your zit is pussy (eww!) and ready to pop, and you just can’t wait it out. If you’re going to go for it, then do it right. Following these steps can help prevent infection.

First, soak a washcloth in hot water (wash your hands thoroughly while you’re there) and press it against the pimple for a few minutes. The heat softens up the head and makes it a lot easier to take care of.

At this point, the puss may have already started seeping out. If not, get a fine needle or straight pin and sterilize it with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. Very gently, nip the tip of the pimple with the pin. Do it very lightly. You do NOT want to delve too deeply.

Now, use clean gauze or a tissue to gently squeeze out the rest of the stuff. If it hurts too much, just let the gauze soak up what seeps out naturally. Once the puss turns to clear liquid and blood, it’s time to quit the pimple popping and let that thing heal! Go enjoy your day.
